The Ductile Iron Knife Gate Valve is specifically designed for on-off service in thick, viscous, or solid-laden media — applications where a conventional gate valve would jam or fail to close. The gate is machined to a sharp edge at its bottom. As the gate lowers, it literally cuts (or “shears”) through the media, pushing solids aside to reach the seat. This makes knife gate valves ideal for wastewater sludge, paper pulp, mining tailings, and other high-solids fluids. The seat is typically an elastomer (EPDM, NBR, or Viton) that is fully vulcanized to the body, providing a tight seal even after hundreds of cycles. Because the gate sweeps across the seat, there is minimal accumulation — but purge ports can be added for flushing.
Replaceable Seat: Seat can be replaced in the field without removing the valve from the pipeline.
Thick Gate (≥8mm): Resists bending under high differential pressure.
Purge Ports: Threaded ports for steam or water injection to clean the seat area.
Stainless Steel Gate: SS304 or SS316 gate prevents corrosion in wet slurries.
Packless Design: Self-adjusting packing gland or inflatable seat options.
