The Ductile Iron Y-Strainer is installed upstream of pumps, valves, meters, and other sensitive equipment to remove solid particles (sand, rust, weld slag, scale) from the fluid. The body is cast in the shape of a “Y” — the straight-through leg allows normal flow, while the angled leg houses the removable stainless steel strainer screen. Debris collects inside the screen pocket. To clean the strainer, the technician simply removes the bolted cover (or blows down the drain valve) and pulls out the screen for rinsing. The Y-Strainer offers low pressure drop because flow passes straight through the screen (perpendicular to the mesh, not parallel). For dirty media, a blow-down port can be added to purge debris without interrupting pipeline operation.
