A threaded flange connects directly to a pipe via internal threads (instead of welding). The flange bore is machined with standard taper pipe threads (e.g., NPT, BSPT) or parallel pipe threads (BSPP). During installation, a gasket is placed between the flange faces, then the threaded flange is screwed onto the pipe; the threads provide self‑locking and the necessary compression force for sealing. Threaded flanges are typically used for nominal sizes ≤ DN50 (NPS 2″), because larger diameters make thread machining difficult and require excessive installation torque.
Compared to welded flanges, the biggest advantage of threaded flanges is no hot work. This makes them ideal for flammable / explosive environments such as natural gas, gasoline, chemical solvents, and retrofit projects where welding is not allowed on site. In addition, threaded connections allow repeated disassembly, suitable for pipe sections requiring regular inspection or cleaning. However, threaded flanges demand high precision on the mating pipe threads. We can match threads per customer’s specifications or sample. Facing types include Raised Face (RF), Flat Face (FF), Ring Type Joint (RTJ), etc., which together with the proper gasket provide reliable sealing.
